Philosophy:
I believe that every student can be successful learning math. Students need to have positive experiences to develop concrete concepts for the abstract ideas encountered in math. Most children succeed when they have the opportunity to build on their successes.
Nothing gives me more satisfaction than seeing a student have an "AHAA" moment when finally understanding a concept!
Bio:
I graduated from Thomas More College with a BA in Elementary Education. I have a Master of Education working with Learning Disabled and Behavior Disorder Students from XU. In addition to my formal degrees, I have over 30 post graduate credits in teaching mathematics. I'm currently earning my Gifted License from the State of Ohio.
In 1999, I was honored by the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics as the outstanding Elementary Math Teacher for the Southwest District of Ohio. In 2001, I received recognition as the Outstanding Elementary Math Teacher for the State of Ohio.
I have co-chaired three OCTM State Math Conferences in Cincinnati, spoke at most of the OCTM conferences around the state and also at the National Council of Math Teachers Regional Conferences. I have served on the Executive Board of the OCTM in various capacities since 1992 and was just elected as the Elementary Vice President of the organization for the next three years.
I just love anything that has to do with math and children.
This is my 16th year at IHM as the Math Specialist and my 39th year of teaching. I've taught in the Covington Public Schools, St. Peter & Paul School in Norwood, Springer School for students with learning disabilities, St. Vincent Ferrer, Norwood Learning Center and St. John the Baptist School.
