Citing Your Sources

 

The following citation forms have been adopted by Immaculate Heart of Mary School for use by all 6-8th grade students handing in research projects. Please follow the examples carefully. An example of an annotated citation appears at the end of the series.

CITATION EXAMPLES.

All citations must be listed in alphabetical order by the first word in the entry.
        If a citation takes up more than  one line, then the additional lines must
        be indented .5 inches from left margin, just like this paragraph.
Please note: Anything shown in italics below may be underlined instead of italicized.

Book
Examples:

Bonner, Mary J. New Forms of Communication. Boston: Holt, Rinehart and
        Winston, 1988.

Format:

Author. Title. City and State Published: Publishing Co, Date Published.

Encyclopedia
Example:

“Satellites,” World Book Encyclopedia. 1997, Vol. 12.

Format:

Author. (if Available) “Title of Article,” Name of Encyclopedia.
        Date Published, Vol.# .

Online Encyclopedia
Example:

With author:

CD-ROM RESOURCES

Format:
Author's name(if available). "Title of work." Title of complete work. Date of

INTERVIEW

To cite an interview that you conducted, give the name of the person interviewed, the kind of interview (personal interview, telephone interview, email interview, etc.)on topic of interview, place of interview and the date of the interview.

Example:

Smith, John. Telephone interview on Vietnam War. Cincinnati, Ohio. Oct. 10, 2000.

Annotated Bibliography:

If you are requested to submit an annotated bibliography, supply a brief description of each entry and how it pertains to your research..

Example:

Satellites,” World Book Encyclopedia. 1997, Vol. 12.
        This book gave me information that helped me to visualize the distance between each planet and to build my model in the proper perspective.

Format:

Regular citation format for the entry.
    A brief description of information contained in the source and how you utilized it. Entire paragraph should be indented .5 inches from left margin.
