Our VIP this week was Ethan C.! We think that he is a very
important person because he is a wonderful classmate, he is always considerate,
and because he is always giving great put-ups to everyone!
Newsletter and Announcements
Dear Families,
We are in the final stretch of the school year! I only have one
announcement this week! I simply wanted to give a great big THANK YOU to all of
the parents, grandparents, and family members, who came to Portfolio Day! The
students were so excited to share their work with you and I know that they truly
enjoyed it! I hope that you enjoyed your visit as well. More than anything, I
hope that you enjoyed that moment in time with your child and that you were able
to see the amazing growth within your children that I see each day!
We were busy in Reading this week! We continued to explore Robust
Vocabulary and root words and suffixes. We played Robust Vocabulary BINGO and we
practiced adding suffixes to words that end in y, words that end in e, and words
that end in CVC patterns. In Writer’s Workshop, we were extremely busy preparing
for Portfolio Day and continuing our Interview Unit! We interviewed so many of
our classmates this week and of course we finished up our final poem for our
Poetry Books and our final piece for our Portfolios too! In Math, we completed
our chapter involving money. The students have become Touch Money Pros (thank
you for your reinforcement at home regarding the touch points; this is so
helpful). We also took a Unit and a Cumulative Test. Of course, we had to mix
some fabulous math centers in the mix of our math tests, so we reinforced our
money skills through math centers! The students loved counting the value of
coins and filling in the corresponding number in Mystery Picture Money, spying
piggy banks around the room and adding up the value of the coins in I Spy Money,
and pinching and totaling money in Pinch and Total! In Religion, we explored
prayer and participated in several prayer services. I was so proud of the
prayers, intentions, and prayers of thanksgiving which the students offered
throughout the week. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful class with such
thoughtful and caring children. We completed our chapter which focused on force
and motion this week! Before finishing this chapter, we had one more fun
experiment! The students simply loved trying to push or pull “heavy things”
(myself, a heavy box, etc.) without wheels and then trying to push or pull
“heavy things” using things with wheels (like a dolly and a rolling chair). I
think their favorite part was seeing a student try to push or pull me without
wheels and then seeing a student try to push or pull me on wheels (a rolling
chair). We also began another one of my favorite chapters which focuses on
Matter! So far, we have learned all about two of the states of matter including
solids and liquids! We explored many mystery solids within a bag and we also
played with water (a liquid) to observe how liquids always take the shape of a
given container!
As always, please feel free to contact me with any
comments, questions, or concerns. My email address is jessicaw@ihomschool.org.
Thank You!
