We are working on Chapter 9. The children have learned about The Forgiving Father, and how God will always forgive us, as long as we are sorry. They have learned about the three types of sins: original, venial, and mortal. There will be a test on Unit 3 (chapters 7, 8, 9) sometime during the week of Dec. 15. I will let you know the exact date later. |
Reading
We are reading "The Great Ball Game." It is a story about an argument between the Animals and the Birds. This story explains why birds fly south for the winter. |
Writing
We are discussing the four types of sentences: statements, questions, exclamations, and commands. The children are learning to incorporate as many types of sentences as possible into their writing. |
Spelling
See spelling words for this week below. |
Math
We are beginning Chapter 6, which is readiness for trading. (We called it carrying and borrowing back in my day! Also known as "renaming.") This can be a difficult concept for second graders. We will be working with tens and ones cubes to understand the concept. |
Science
Our popcorn kernels are hanging on our windows, and guess what? They are actually growing! We have also decorated and planted different kinds of beans/seeds. The test on the plant chapter will be on Tuesday, Dec. 9. |

All about Mrs. Connelly:
Hi! This is my 30th year teaching at IHM. I live in the Eastgate area with my husband, Michael, and our 22 year old son, Jared. I enjoy teaching at IHM. The children and parents are wonderful! I believe all students can learn and I try to use different methods in my teaching in order to meet the needs of my students.
