Check out the web site at the bottom of this page called

"Timed Tests"!  This is a great site for practicing Math facts!

Religion

In Religion, we are reviewing the sacrament of Reconciliation.  The children will have another opportunity to celebrate this sacrament during the season of Lent.  We are also writing paragraphs about what makes our school special.  In addition to this, we will be making cards for our parishioners, thanking them for supporting IHM School.

Reading

This week, we will be reading "At Play:  Long Ago and Today."  It is an interesting informational article that compares recreational activities from years ago with those of today.

Math

We have begun Chapter 11, "Using Two-Digit Addition."  This chapter includes:  rewriting to add; estimating sums; adding three numbers; problem solving; and front-end estimation.  The children are working very hard on their regrouping.

Writing

We will complete our study of lower-case cursive letters this week.  The children are very proud of how much they have learned in just three weeks!  They will be learning how to write their first and last names this week, and then we will start on the upper-case letters.  Soon, we will do some of our daily work in cursive.  This is always challenging at first, but with practice, I am sure they will do great!  The children have written a personal narrative.  These will be coming home on Monday, January 30.  The children will need help editing.  Thanks.

Spelling

Spelling words for the week of January 30 - February 3 are listed below.  We are back to our regular homework:  Monday:  2 x each; Tuesday:  ABC order; Wednesday:  8 sentences; Thursday:  study for the test.

Health

In Health, we have started Chapter 9:  "Safety and Injury Prevention."  We will be discussing outdoor and indoor safety, including wearing a helmet when bike riding, and staying away from harmful household substances.  We will also talk about fire safety, in preparation for our firefighter assembly during Catholic Schools Week.
