Language Arts
5th Grade

Remember to check Progress Book often as well as the 5th/6th grade calendar.
| Reading | Students are required to read outside of class.
They need to bring their book of choice to class each day. I'm asking
each student to set a reading goal for himself of 25 books. The only
requirement from me, is that he/she chooses at least one book from each
genre that we study. We are reading from the reading textbook and working from the reading practice workbook. |
| Writing | The students will write in their journals a couple of times a week and practice revising and proofreading. They will also write a reading response to their book of choice. |
| Vocabulary/Spelling | The vocabulary will come from the reading textbook. The next vocabulary quiz will be Friday, 1/13.
|
| Grammar/LA | We are studying verbs: action, linking, main and helping, verb tense, and irregular verbs. We will have a weekly quiz on each lesson. |
| FYI'S |
Please consider donating to 5L's basket for the Winter Gala. Mrs. Kastner has graciously agreed to put it all together for us, so please send your donations to her. THANK YOU. Each month the students have the opportunity to order books from Scholastic book clubs. I encourage the students to order not only because the prices are good, but we earn free books for the classroom with each order. Besides letting the students know in class, I'll put the due date for orders on the calendar. |
