Welcome to our classroom page! It will be updated every month, and sometimes in-between if there are important updates. I am looking forward to working with you so that each student can have a successful year.
If your student is in 5R homeroom, please ask them about their "Learning Log". Each day the students write down four things that they learned in school that day. Each child needs to do at least three a week that are signed off by me. When they have 10 they will receive a treat; if they do not have three, they will miss part of recess the following Monday. We will start using these toward the end of the month.
PARENTS!! - Remember that ADOPT Cards and Red Folders come home on Tuesday and need to be signed and all papers returned by Wednesday. If either are not returned by Friday a letter will be given on the ADOPT card.

5th Grade Science
Students are finishing up their study of how heat is transferred from object to another. We will begin exploring how light and sound energy are both alike and different. Remember to check out the science spot for additional review activities and websites.
6th Grade Science
We have look at the geologic history of the Earth and the Geologic Time Line. We will be using this information to help us date the relative age of rocks in a geologic cross-section. After this unit, we will be taking our 2nd trimester exam. Remember to check out the science spot for additional review activities and websites.

Mrs. Ray’s Extra Credit Policy
There will be some instances throughout the year that extra credit is offered to all students; however, it is not my policy to offer extra credit on an individual basis. It is my belief that offering a student “extra” work, for the benefit of pulling up a grade, is counter-productive. This time could be better spent making sure that the student understands, completely and wholly, the work that is being assigned to help them understand the concept we are currently studying.
My role is that of a facilitator of learning. I do not “give” grades; students earn them, and I evaluate for understanding. As an educator, I believe test grades are only one means of assessment, and are not as vital as a students’ overall development socially, behaviorally and academically.

Mrs. Ray has been a member of IHM parish for 33 years, and has been teaching for 17
years. Fifteen of those years have
been spent at IHM teaching the fifth grade. In addition, Mrs. Ray has
worked professionally as an educator of teachers at IDC training center, and as
a presenter of workshops at the state, local and national levels. Mrs.
Ray has taught children of all age levels, but really enjoys her fifth
and sixth graders. She believes that all children can learn, and that they all have
strengths and weaknesses that help them to do so. She enjoys the
challenge of reaching each of her students and facilitating their learning
processes.
