2nd Trimester:
With a new trimester upon us, I want to revisit some of the procedures set in place for Ms. Benvie's classroom. Please take a moment to read over.
Please be aware that this trimester students need to be responsible for all missing and late work. Progress book is accessible for all parents and students to see what work is missing. Missing work in Social Studies goes in the "IN" bin by my desk. Late work will receive lower mark.
Any work under 10 points will not receive credit if it is late. HSIs will not be given no credit if late. Homework is due the day it is due, not later.
No credit will be given to work without a name on it!
Checking progress book and getting homework turned in on time will alleviate many end of trimester problems and stress for both the student and the teacher. Students: if you take responsibility for your grades through out the whole trimester, you will not be stressed when the end of the trimester rolls around.
If you are sick, the work needs to go in the "IN" bin with your name on it, as well as the day you were sick, when you return to school. You are responsible for getting all work and notes you miss from your homework buddy, or come talk to me. If it does not go in the "IN" bin when you return, it is considered late.
If you are shadowing, the work needs to go in the "IN" bin with your shadow day on it, when you return to school. You are responsible for getting all work and notes you miss from your homework buddy, or come talk to me. If it does not go in the "IN" bin when you return, it is considered late.
If you are in Excel, you must get work due on your Excel day, to me before you leave for Mrs. Kessler's room, and you are responsible for getting all notes and work you miss from a homework buddy. If you do not give me your work due on Excel day, on Excel day it is considered late. (Those is 7z show it to me during Spanish!)
I always make 5 extra copies for each grade and put them in the 7th and 8th grade bins. You are responsible for your papers. They need to be placed in the appropriate binder tabs, that way you will always know where your papers are. Please be responsible for your papers, once my 5 extra copies run out, I will not make extra copies.
As always, please feel free to email me with questions, comments or concerns. I check email often and will respond promptly.

World War I In this unit we will be discussing the World War I. We will begin by discussing the causes of the Great War as well as those involved. We will be experiencing trench warfare and see how the home front was effected by the war. The class will be making propaganda and discussing important battles that occurred during World War I. Students will examine Woodrow Wilson's presidency during World War I and his push for the League of Nations after Armistice Day on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day of the eleventh month 1918. Homework: Historic Scene Investigations DUE EVERY FRIDAY! HSIs can be accessed through progress book and can be found under homework. Students are to either print out the HSI or write the answers on a piece of lose leaf paper and put them in their binder. Students are to use the clues from the picture, and written paragraph to figure out where in the world Ms. Benvie is. Each place will be closely related to our lesson of the week. This is meant to be a fun activity that students and parents are welcome to do together. This will be given a completion grade and is due every Friday!

Road to Independence & American Revolution We are on the road to independence, traveling through great periods in American History. We will be discussing how the effects of the French and Indian war became causes of the American Revolution. The class will be participating in a "taxing" activity in which they will deal with taxation without representation. We will be exploring the Boston Massacre, Boston Tea party (in which we will be sampling teas) and the Continental Congress. Students will learn about the Declaration of Independence, and the famous men that called for Independence. Students will be working on a project in which they will focus on a significant patriot or loyalist. Once our independence is declared, we will be focusing on the major battles that occurred during the American Revolution and how our country was formed under the Articles of Confederation and then the Constitution.
