The school will continue to follow the state and federal guidelines and procedures for reimbursement for school lunch, breakfast or special milk programs.

  • Immaculate Heart of Mary will continue to implement the health objectives relating to diet, nutrition and exercise as stated in the 2002 Archdiocesan Graded Course of Study for Science and Health.
  • Nutrition guidelines, food pyramid charts, suggestions for healthy food choices and/or other messages related to health and nutrition will be posted in or near the school cafeteria.
  • School lunch periods will be scheduled so as to provide nourishment within a reasonable time frame from the start of the school day.
  • Recess or snack breaks will be scheduled for students as needed to maintain energy l
  • All students will participate in the school’s physical education program which implements the objectives of the 2006 Archdiocesan Graded Course of Study for Physical Education.
  • All classes will have access to recess according to the school’s schedule.
  • Discipline will be administered in ways other than depriving a student of recess or physical education class. Students may be asked to engage in running, walking or other physical activities instead of remaining stationary.
  • Students will be encouraged to participate in school and community sports programs and to be physically active outside of school.

 

  • Immaculate Heart of Mary School encourages the use of non-food rewards for student behavior.
  • The school further encourages teachers and parents to provide healthy snacks, and to minimize sugary treats for classroom celebrations. Treats for classroom parties should consist of 100% fruit drinks and a snack that meets nutritional guidelines for appropriate fat and sugar content. Room parents are expected to follow these guidelines.
  • The nutrition committee will provide parent education on nutrition and the benefits of physical activity through newsletters during the course of the school year.
  • Teachers will have the opportunity to attend training in nutrition and physical activities conducive to learning.

 

  • School lunches will follow nutritional guidelines established by Ohio Department of Education, Office of Child Nutrition Services.
  • The school will provide a choice of healthy snacks and beverages which will be made available to the students during the lunch period.
  • Students are not permitted to have access to any vending machines during regular school hours.
  • Drinking fountains will be available in every building and students are encouraged to bring containers of water to school to use throughout the d

  • As part of the physical education classes, students may be asked to monitor the effects of their
    participation in physical fitness activities.
  • As part of their nutrition curriculum, students may be asked to keep a record of their food intake
    at school anParents will be given the opportunity to monitor their children’s lunch time nutritional habits through internet available software that lists their food purchases by category.
  • Stakeholders will be asked for input when the plan is re- evaluated by the faculty
