April 10, 2024

Dear Crusader Families,

It was great to see all Crusaders back on campus this week! I hope that everyone had a wonderful, relaxing spring break. With only 6 weeks left of our school year, we are now in the final stretch! The next few weeks will be filled with many fun and exciting activities and events for our Crusaders.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. As part of the April 2024 child abuse prevention initiative, the IHM Social Ministries Child Protection Advocacy Committee is sponsoring a Prevention Postcard Contest. This annual contest is open to all students of the parish in grades kindergarten through eight. Participation is encouraged for all IHM families as an avenue for helping children learn and talk about child protection rules and encourage ongoing awareness. Students are encouraged to participate in the postcard contest and can turn in completed postcards to the school office by April 19th. A letter from the IHM Social Ministries was sent home with your student this week which gives additional details about the postcard contest as well as about resources and information for Child Abuse Prevention Month.

In addition to Child Abuse Prevention Month, next week, we will be celebrating Kindness. This is an initiative to promote kindness toward ourselves, others and within our community. Please see the attached flyer HERE for a summary of events. Save the date for the parent presentation on Wednesday April 17, 2024 at 6:30 as we welcome Mary Vicario, who will be speaking on Balancing our Brains for Learning.

Finally, are you interested in extending your child’s learning throughout the summer months? A few teachers are offering extended learning opportunities. Please visit the FLYER for a summary of the offerings. If interested, please register HERE and submit the registration fee by April 19th. Following April 19th, classes will be confirmed, and additional communication will go out to parents. We are grateful to teachers who are offering a great opportunity for students to extend and continue growth over summer months.

Many Blessings,

Ms. Durstock

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Tomorrow April 11th, our 5th & 8th grade students will be taking the Ohio State Science Test. This is a state requirement. Please encourage students to get a good nights rest & eat healthy breakfast in preparation.

A parent education night has been organized for April 17, 2024, in Hertiage. PTO is sponsoring refreshments and d'Oeuvres, with the presentation beginning at 7:00. Mary Vicario founder of Finding Hope Consulting will be presenting on Balancing our Brains for Learning.

In a world that is often off balance, how do we balance brains for learning? For any brain to learn, we must first be regulated and able to relate. So how do we bring the ability to regulate and relate into our homes? While an individuals’ outward response to stress may vary, neurobiologically there is a pattern. Understanding this pattern allows us to help our youth, ourselves and each other find our way back to regulation and connection. In this interactive training we will dive into the full stress response cycle and explore tools to help us end the battle to stop “behavior” and shift to helping youth, ourselves and others create resilience, belonging and courage to work cooperatively and learn.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Beginning Sunday, November 5th at the 9:30am Mass, children, ages 4 to 8, are invited to participate in a Children’s Liturgy of the Word. At the beginning of the Liturgy of the Word during Mass, children will be invited to process out to the choir room with Lindsey Schaaf and Tricia Cobb to listen to Scripture and respond to questions about what happens in the Sunday Readings. Understanding the Gospel reading at their level will help children deepen and explore their relationship with God. They will learn simple Mass responses for the Creed and Intercessory Prayer. Then they will rejoin their families in time to begin the Liturgy of the Eucharist. We will offer the Children’s Liturgy of the Word the first Sunday of the month, November through April at the 9:30am Mass.
