Summer Suggestions

Hello advanced math parents,

While IHM has not required students to complete summer work, I always recommended having your child complete summer work in order to retain much more of what we have covered throughout the year. To help with this, I recommend the SUMMER SOLUTIONS books.

The Summer Solutions books are very similar to the Simple Solutions books your child is currently using in Math class, so they will already be familiar with the questions and material. Another advantage of using Summer Solutions is that each book comes with an answer key. This makes grading much easier for either your child to grade on their own, or for you to check on their progress.

Due to the nature of my Advanced Math class, I would recommend ordering the "Common Core Edition" for the grade level they just finished and the regular Summer Solutions edition for the grade they are going into. Here is what this looks like for each group of students…

5th Grade Graduates: “Common Core Mathematics 5” and “Summer Solutions Intermediate B”

6th Grade Graduates: “Common Core Mathematics 6” and “Summer Solutions Pre-Algebra”

7th Grade Graduates: “Common Core Mathematics 7” and “Summer Solutions Algebra I Part A”

I would expect to see only minor errors while completing the lower grade level book probably only getting about one problem incorrect on each page. As for the higher grade levels book, I would expect them to be able to correctly answer half of the problems without any issue at all. However, just like with their Simple Solutions Book there are "Help Pages" in the back that explain and discuss topics they have either forgotten or are not yet familiar with.

I will be emailing each grade levels “Essential Skills” that correlate to the grade your child just completed. These are lists of standards and skills that your child is expected to be able to do on their own with great accuracy at the beginning of next school year. Each one of these skills is something that was covered during the school year, that we will not have much time to review next year. For this reason, it is essential that your child remember how to answer these questions and understand these topics for the start of next school year.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this,
Mr. Reeder
