Hello! My name is Mrs. Katie McHugh and I am so excited to be teaching at Immaculate Heart of Mary School. My husband and I are long-time, active parishioners in the parish and have three children who attend IHM as well.
I studied at Xavier University where I earned two Bachelor's Degrees in both Elementary Education and Special Education. I then continued my love of learning by earning my Master's Degree in Educational Administration. I spent six years teaching in Norwood City Schools. My first few years I worked as a resource room intervention specialist teacher and my last years as a regular education elementary teacher. During this time, I was chosen by my district to travel to Salt Lake City, Utah to present my highly effective teaching strategies at the Council for Exceptional Children Conference. I was also asked to present at a conference in Columbus as well as serve on a team to evaluate grants for state funding. I feel so blessed to have had the opportunities to grow and expand my knowledge of the educational field!
At the end of my time teaching in Norwood, we were blessed to become parents. I had the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mom until our children were of school age. During my time at home I worked to keep my licenses current, completed 4 more college courses, and attended multiple educational workshops. My love of learning never stops! I have been looking forward to getting back in the classroom to share my love of our faith and learning with students.
As a the year progresses, I look forward to getting to know your child and your family. As a teacher, I feel it is very important to keep in close communication with families so please feel free to reach out to me during the year if you have any questions or concerns. Many blessings to you and your family!
