My Bio

My name is Sarah Georgin and I have been teaching at IHM for 18 years!  I taught seventh grade language arts at IHM for nine years. I also taught Latin and ran the school Library for 6 years. I am also a Gifted Intervention Specialist and have been teaching the ExCEL program at IHM for the past 4 years.

I graduated from Loyola/Xavier University with my teaching degree and received my Masters degree from Xavier University.  I recently returned to Xavier University to attain my Gifted Intervention Specialist Endorsement.  I became a teacher because I have always loved reading, and I wanted to share this passion with others. When I was a child I use to play school in my basement, and I was always the teacher for my stuffed animals, dolls, and dogs. I really appreciate that my current students are much more engaged than my stuffed animals and dolls, and much better behaved than my dogs.

I chose seventh grade because I feel that it is a fundamental year in a student’s life where they will begin taking on more responsibility and independence. With that comes the independent critical thought that I find so amazing, and I love coming up with new ways to challenge and inspire them.
My favorite thing about teaching is seeing my students succeed. It is wonderful to see my students work hard on a concept, see the moment when the information clicks into place, and see them realize that they have learned something and they understand it. I consider myself lucky to be a part of these moments.

After 18 years of teaching, it is difficult to pick just one funny moment. However, every year in my class we have a mock trial, and every year there is at least one or two students who really embrace their roles as lawyers or defendants and make everyone laugh with their character acting skills.

My husband John and I have been blessed with a full household. We have twelve year old triplets: Isabel, Sophie, and Alex who attend IHM; as well as a dogs: Fitz. My husband is a lawyer, so between work and family we are always on the go, but it seems to make our time together even more precious.

I am also blessed to be a part of the IHM community which has become my second family and my home away from home. The people I have met, and the friends that I have made here will leave a lasting impact on my life.
